Statement
Spending their childhood in Boston, Courtney moved to Seattle in 2018 to study Marketing and Entrepreneurship at the University of Washington. Minoring in Environmental Studies and Global Health, Courtney has always desired to apply their professional skills to serve local and global communities. Graduating in 2022, Courtney found work in sales at various technology start-ups.
In 2023, a variety of health concerns led Courtney on a healing journey, reconnecting them with their creative pursuits and realigning their professional pursuits with values-based goals. Courtney has a lot of healing left to do, but through creative expression, they are finally beginning to understand their lived experience.
Most of Courtney’s work comes from a place of healing that inner child - allowing them to live outside the box society told them to make themselves smaller (physically, socially, and emotionally) to fit inside.
This sentiment is reflected in Courtney’s vibrant color choices and subject material. Their unique color palette is an expression of their release from the societal expectations that dictated their presentation of self throughout childhood and young adulthood.
They don’t hesitate to experiment using found materials and new mediums, embracing childlike curiosity in each piece. Challenging their perfectionistic tendencies, the ever-changing nature of their style reflects their self-exploration and learning as they continue to figure out - who is Courtney Burrow?
Courtney tries to capture the the beauty and joy of the human condition - even within the most icky feelings and emotions. All this to say, they find power and unity in the diverse interpretations of their art and encourage viewers to find their unique meaning by tuning into their own emotions and lived experiences.
